چکیده

Biodiesel produced from oleaginous microorganisms is considered an appealing option since yeasts and microalgae can accumulate between 20 % 80 lipids of their dry cell weight. However, it still not economically sustainable production costs are high. This work developed a new mild protocol using hexane or sunflower oil as extraction solvents to simultaneously extract carotenoids Rhodosporidium toruloides biomass directly the broth culture without any harvesting technique after performing high pressure homogenization disrupt yeast cells. The highest results were obtained for extractions attaining 55.9 total (w/w) 111.5 µg g−1 (eq. torulene) carotenoids, which higher values than ones lipid traditional methods. process here presented easy, simple, inexpensive environmentally friendly methodology involves simultaneous R. has never been reported before greatly improve economics biodiesel process.

The Production, Regulation and Extraction of Carotenoids from Rhodosporidium toruloides

Carotenoids are valuable pigments of commercial interest for various health benefits. There is rising demand for natural carotenoids from microorganisms, although the majority of industrially produced carotenoids are currently chemically synthesized. Rhodosporidium toruloides is oleaginous red yeast, which can produce large amounts of carotenoids and lipids simultaneously. It is also able to as...

Single Cell Oil Producing Yeasts Lipomyces starkeyi and Rhodosporidium toruloides: Selection of Extraction Strategies and Biodiesel Property Prediction

Single cell oils (SCOs) are considered potential raw material for the production of biodiesel. Rhodosporidium sp. and Lipomyces sp. are good candidates for SCO production. Lipid extractability differs according to yeast species and literature on the most suitable method for each oleaginous yeast species is scarce. This work aimed to investigate the efficiency of the most cited strategies for ex...

Purification and characterization of a cephalosporin esterase from Rhodosporidium toruloides.

A novel cephalosporin esterase (EC 3.1.1.41) from Rhodosporidium toruloides was purified to gel electrophoretic homogeneity. The enzyme is a glycoprotein with a molecular mass of 80 kDa. Upon deglycosylation, several forms of the enzyme were observed with a molecular mass range between 60 and 66 kDa. The isoelectric point of the enzyme is approximately 5.6, with the pH optimum for activity occu...

High-density cultivation of oleaginous yeast Rhodosporidium toruloides Y4 in fed-batch culture

Microbial lipid production by the oleaginous yeast Rhorosporidium toruloides Y4 was studied using glucose as carbon source, in order to realize igh-density cell culture. Batch cultures demonstrated that there was little inhibitory effect with a substrate concentration of up to 150 g l−1. Flask ed-batch cultures were run for 25 days and reached a dry biomass and cellular lipid content of 151.5 g...
